SPANISH
Guardian
Angels School was chosen as one of eight schools in
Nebraska and Iowa to take part in a U.S. Dept. of
Education Technology Challenge Grant. The grant
provides for the teaching of Spanish to grade school
children. 1998-99 was the first year that G. A. School
was involved in the grant. We began teaching Spanish in
grades K, 1, 3 and 5. Grades 2, 4 and 6 joined the
program in 1999-00. Grades 7 & 8 were added to the
program in 2000-01. All students are now learning
Spanish.
The teachers attend training sessions throughout the
year to not only learn Spanish, but also methods for
teaching it to the children. Through the use of
computers, videos and teacher presentations, the
teachers present the Spanish curriculum. The children
also meet with a Language Associate once or twice a week
so they can practice their Spanish language skills.
The object
of the foreign language grant is to teach Spanish as an
integration with the other subjects in the curriculum.
It is not just Spanish as a foreign language course.
